Canyon Quilters Supports Giving...
Canyon makes and gives away over 50 quilts a year to Veterans’ organizations. We have been supporting this effort for more than 20 years.
The best size for these quilts is 44″ x 72″. They become the “topper” for the veteran’s bed, or can easily be used around the vet’s shoulders. Sometimes we make them in bright, cheerful colors; sometimes in red, white and blue. They are loved no matter what!
If you are interested in participating, please come to the Veterans table at Canyon meetings. There are cutting, piecing, quilting, and binding projects available.
There are so many unclaimed animals in shelters that need soft comfy beds! Canyon helps supply these beds to shelters around San Diego county.
Bring any of the following materials to the Canyon meeting and give them to Merilyne Hickman, or KC rep.
Left over batting, at least 10 inches wide; left over soft flannel; finished dog or kitty beds (see Merilyne for details); or empty thread spools that can be made into cat toys.
If you would like to volunteer to help to make the beds, please see Merilyne at a meeting, or visit kennelcomfortersvolunteerproject.bbnow.org.
Royal Family Kids Camp
A group of volunteers from City View Church in San Diego, every summer takes 30 children between the ages of 7 through 11 to a week-long camp.
The children are foster children who come from abused and abandoned backgrounds and are given this life-changing experience. For the past several years Canyon has made and given each of these children a quilt of their own to have at camp and take home with them.
Each January Kay Laboda begins collecting quilts to distribute to the kids at camp in July. See Kay for details.
