Canyon's 2020 Speakers and Workshops
Canyon Quilters of San Diego meet at The Salvation Army Meeting Room, 4710 Balboa Avenue, the third Monday of every month except December.
Guests are always welcome at our Guild meetings.
We have two meetings where “Friends Come Free”: April and June! All other months there is a $5 fee.
Doors open at 6:30. We have plenty for members and guests to do before the program starts.
- Membership. Pick up a member directory or a bookmark. Chat with a membership chair about what it means to be a Canyon member
- Philanthropy. Chat about how to help. Pick up a kit and make a Veteran’s project or a dog/kitty bed
- Programs. Learn about upcoming events and workshops. Sign up for classes
- Fat Quarter Exchange. Play by bringing a fat quarter in the month’s theme and maybe win all the fat quarters
- Retreat. Sign up and join the fun
The program begins at 7:00. There is sharing at almost all meetings, as well as a special event or a lecture/trunk show by the evening’s speaker.
Cristie McGuire from Canyon Quilters
Program at 2/17 Meeting: Totes: Fast, Useful & Fun Projects
Workshop 2/22: Trendy Totes. Tips and tricks on how to make and complete a tote in a day. Held at Rosie’s Calico Cupboard.
Program at 3/16 Meeting: You’ve Got A Friend Named Elmer. Sue shows you how to eliminate bias stretch, create curved INSIDE borders and sew pieced circles, all without the need for pins, clips or gadgets. A MUST-SEE lecture that will ROCK your piecing world!
Workshop 3/15-17: Free-Motion Quilting. A three-day workshop, with the third day an optional day for hands-on quilting. For more info on day 1 click here and day 2 click here. Held at Rosie’s Calico Cupboard.
Program at 4/20 Meeting: Quilting in Paradise. It’s all about how working in a studio overlooking the ocean, surrounded by tropical flora influences the art.
Workshop 4/18-19: Easy Stained Glass Quilts. Use any stained glass pattern (or one of Phyllis’) or create your own. Then make a quilted piece that not only looks like real stained glass but requires no fussy edge treatments, no bias tape, no fussy quilting and is quick, easy and fun! This class is appropriate for beginners, and a complete quilt can be completed in your two-day class. For more info on the class click here. Held at Rosie’s Calico Cupboard.
Program at 5/18 Meeting: Expanding My Quilting Journey. Back by popular demand, this Romanian-born engineer and designer returns to our Guild.
Workshop 5/16-17: Only One. Make a stunning, modern and artful quilt using a simplified stack-and-whack technique. The best fabric for this pattern needs to have a large repeat (ideally 22″ to 24″ but a 15″ repeat can also work), fairly large and varied print (a small print does not work), a good amount of negative space and a limited number of colors. For more info on this class click here. Held at Rosie’s Calico Cupboard.
Program at 6/15 Meeting: Trunk Show. Diane is an award winning quilter for applique and hand quilting. She works part time and teaches at the Jinny Beyer Studio in Great Falls, Montana.
Workshop 6/13: Arabic Tiles. The Arabic Tiles quilt boasts an intricate look based on a single shape (the 60° diamond) and the design power of Jinny Beyer’s border print fabrics. Held at Rosie’s Calico Cupboard.
