Brenda Gael Smith Lecture Oct 2021Program at 10/18 Meeting: Driven to Abstraction. Brenda creates textile works made from a rich palette of her hand-dyed fabrics, complemented by intensive stitching. Much of her work is inspired by the color and patterns of the natural world with a focus on her surroundings at the “other” Copacabana in Australia and her New Zealand homeland. Using a process of abstraction, Brenda strives to capture the essence of her subjects in simplified form.

Brenda Gael Smith Workshop Oct 2021

Workshop 10/16: FUNdamentally Circles. This workshop focuses on the core technique of freeform piecing circular designs without pins and templates. It’s liberating and FUN! After skill-building exercises, students start on their own compositions with confidence.

This workshop is only open to Canyon members at this time.
It will open to non-members no later than September 16, 2021 and this is typically announced on QuilterzNooz.

Drive-By Quilt Show

Let’s share our love of quilting with our quilting community and our neighbors.

On Saturday, September 25th from 9am to 4pm, Canyon is hosting a DRIVE-BY QUILT SHOW! Canyon members will be displaying our quilts in this unique outdoors display. People can view the quilts from their cars or get up close if they want. Don’t want to display alone? Partner with other Canyon members in your area to display multiple quilts.

Get creative on how you display the quilts: hang them from a gate, balcony, fence, inside a window or on your garage door. Lay them over a car, a bike, a bench, a chair or even right on the grass. Tie rope between two trees and let your quilt(s) sway in the breeze.

It’s time to pull out your quilts, call your Canyon friends and neighbors to partner with, make a plan to display them where they can be seen from the street, and share them with quilters and neighbors alike!

Need tips for displaying them? View these tips on Facebook (first 1 ½ mins), as well as hanging a quilt using velcro.
